This rather beautiful metallic green fly was photographed in a meadow close to a stream in Darwen, Lancashire. This is a male with prominent genitalia at the rear. The larvae are predators on smaller invertebrates.
The intention of this blog is to present my own attempts at photographing invertebrates, insects in particular. Ideally the organisms shown would be identified fully with useful information about the group or species. However, not being an expert entomologist I shall in many cases post images before full identification is made with the hope that in time such identifications will be added.
